about

Dear Ear,

These six pieces are immediate compositions, recorded in one take, single mono track, improvised over the course of a day in a room overlooking a small valley surrounded by the oak tree studded hillsides of Coastal California. The music is influenced by this landscape and by an internal landscape/soundscape. Soundscape is a personal dialogue, often with nature, but also as a conversation with our disrupted social fabric of this early 21st century. The sounds on this album teeter between the monotone harmonious and the disruptive dissonance, in and out of tune, tonal and opulent, and densely textured hiss and crunch. I caused the sound to exist on this day of April 6th, but in recording it, it felt more like a discovery of a strangely worded book forgotten in the stacks of an abandoned wing of a library, or the exploration of a magnified translucent topography through a petrographic microscope. Above all, in the effort to bring it forth/out, I am continuously surprised in finding 'noise', a search that is no small endeavor.

Yours truely,

a fellow listener

about

poetic electric Ventura, California

poetic electric is Noah Thomas, trumpet player, and multi-instrumentalist. An anthropologist, Thomas applies a sense of the palimpsests of culture, materials, and nature to create dense sonic landscapes, applying an anarchist tendency toward an equanimity of sound where melody, harmony, and noise exist on equal footing. ... more
